home-roasted harar horse lot 14659 ethiopian coffee from sweet marias. this is the third ethiopian coffee i’ve roasted, looking for something resembling Peet’s ethiopian super natural. the absolute best we’ve had so far is Organic Yirgacheffe beans from Burman Coffee. The green coffee beans cost ~1/3 to 1/2 the price of roasted coffee, and they taste much better than store-bought roasted beans during the first week or two (nothing has lasted two weeks yet).

Yes, everyone takes this photo. Yet I still enjoyed every moment of looking at The Bean.
Coffee, Cup and Beans

I’m exporting some files and my laptop is busy proccesing files, I can’t do much, so I took my camera, turned around and my little coffee cups with coffee beans,
they were waiting to get their shot taken. I love coffee and usually have coffee beans near my work place, love the smell, so I need to put fresh coffee beans every week.
I love macro/detail images, so that plus coffee is a perfect match.

Hot Homemade Pork and Bean Soup

Well 1/2 home-made. I like to add a can of Campbells Bean and Bacon soup to my wifes soup. It then really tastes good. Don’t tell her.

worshipping the bean for art

Even though there are tons of flickerites in Chicago, I always find it amazing when someone on here was taking the same photo at the same time – and disappointing when they’re not.
Being as the worshipping of the bean was a planned event, I wondered if the sudden swarm of cameras around the bean worshippers was spontaneous from the more street photography minded tourists or if people were really shooting it on purpose like I was.
Sure enough, when I looked up "bean worship" there was one other flickerite who was shooting the event. Insomnia Jones, J.D.
Her caption was "it was bright."
I think that sums it up well.
The photos were overexposed in color so badly that I had to convert them to black and white (not that this isn’t my natural inclination with street and candid anyhow).
This one was my favorite of the bunch. The rest should be up on my photo-a-day account tomorrow in all of their washed out glory.
The chant they were mantraing by the way was, "take us back to your leader bean" and things like that.
One does wonder how far off the base they are in worshipping the bean, albeit for art, as an alien object. Others have thought that as well.
White bean/kale/miso soup

This is a bit of a riff on this recipe, but with a few switches and substitutions. Lacking tomatoes, I used some small summer squash I had around, while there was no onion used in the base. Meanwhile the beans were canned and ready to go, reducing the cooking time. In any event, all v. delicious, a bit heavy on the miso in terms of taste but no worries there!
